Engagement opportunity: Sooke seeking feedback on draft building regulation bylaw

Wednesday, September 30, 2020 – The District of Sooke is amending the outdated Building Regulation Bylaw, which requires an entirely new bylaw to replace the current one.

To ensure stakeholders including residents, builders and developers are informed of the new requirements and have an opportunity to provide input, the District is launching an engagement period that will include a survey (available September 30th to October 15th, 2020) and a virtual dialog session on Thursday, October 22nd from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Several key areas of change include:

  • BC Energy Step Code Inclusion
  • BC Building Code Adjustments
  • BC Building Act Adjustments
  • Security Deposits

Prior to taking the survey, persons are encouraged to visit the District website to find all applicable information. Please note that throughout the survey there are links providing further details about specific topics.

In addition to the online survey, a virtual Microsoft Teams meeting will take place on Thursday, October 22nd, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with staff presenting an overview of the changes and providing an opportunity to answer questions. Advanced registration for this session is required. To register please email corp@sooke.ca or call 250-642-1634. The deadline to register is Wednesday, October 21st, 2020.

The results from this community engagement period, along with the draft building bylaw will be presented to Council for consideration in November.

Questions regarding the survey, virtual meeting and/or the draft bylaw can be emailed to building@sooke.ca or contact staff by phone at 250-642-1634.
