CRD Committee Membership Opportunity: Victoria Family Court & Youth Justice Committee

VICTORIA FAMILY COURT & YOUTH JUSTICE COMMITTEE

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Interested individuals are invited to apply to serve on the Victoria Family Court & Youth Justice Committee for up to a two (2) year term commencing in 2024. The Committee educates and advocates for options to address the challenges and shortfalls facing youth and families who may come into contact with the justice system, supervises a small granting budget, and facilitates connections between local governments, school districts, service providers, and the broader community.

Nominations are being accepted for up to six (6) Capital Regional District representatives. The areas of competence typically sought on the Committee are:

  • Legal experience, specifically youth criminal and family expertise
  • Education, Health, Probation, and Welfare expertise, including those with backgrounds in social outreach programs, restorative justice, youth intervention, and child protective services

Applicants may be community members, representatives of youth and family justice organizations, or representatives of public authorities, including First Nations. This is a working committee, and members volunteer time between regular meetings to participate in one or more sub-committees or initiatives. Those appointed will not remunerated, in accordance with the Provincial Court Act. Applicants must reside in the Capital Regional District.

New appointments to the Victoria Family Court & Youth Justice Committee will be made by the CRD Board based on the Victoria Family Court & Youth Justice Committee’s recommendation.
