Winter Storm Preparation – December 22, 2022

With the weather forecast predicting a combination of snow, ice, and rain over the coming days, municipal crews and contractors are prioritizing road safety and stormwater management planning. The municipal hall is closed from December 24 – January 2, but staff remain on call to assist as needed. Contact information and further details are below.

In all cases of imminent threat to life or property, call 9-1-1.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure manages Highway 14 and the Edward Milne frontage road, their contractor is Emcon Services. The District of Sooke does not create calls for service for these areas. Please contact Emcon Services directly with your concerns at 1-866-353-3136

Residents who have fire hydrants in from of their homes are asked to help keep this area free of snow.

Stormwater:

Sooke residents are also asked to proactively clear snow off catch basins in their neighborhood. As the snow melts and the rains arrive, blocked drains may result in localized flooding. The District is identifying priority areas and dispatching crews to clear drains.
