Update from Vancouver Island Regional Library re: Sooke Branch

FROM VANCOUVER ISLAND REGIONAL LIBRARY

Monday, September 17, 2018, Sooke, BC: Although the timeline has been revised in recent months, progress is being made on a new library for the community of Sooke.

The following milestones will help move the project towards construction: in late September, we aim to submit the Development Permit to the municipality, followed by the Building Permit, which we hope to submit in December. Projecting outward, we plan to go to bid in early 2019, and to award the construction contract in February 2019.

Vancouver Island is under a sustained period of intensive development. This, combined with a longer-than-expected design phase, has caused the initial timeline to shift from our initial projection.

Once built, the community of Sooke will have a new library that is unique in design, that captures the best of west coast architecture, and that opens new doors of discovery for residents of every age, interest, and ability.

Renderings of the new library are provided with this release (PDF) and are also available online.

More information, including a revised construction timeline, will be provided as it becomes available.
