Wednesday, December 20, 2023 – The New Year is set to bring a new construction project and address a long-awaited local road concern for the community! Charters Road is set to see a significant restructuring and the addition of sidewalks and bike lanes.
After the November 2021 atmospheric river event compromised the eastbound lane, the District has been working to secure funding to repair and enhance this main corridor in the community.
The wait will soon be over!
“We know this has been a long time coming,” acknowledges Mayor Maja Tait. “The alternative would be applying short-term fixes that would have cost us more in the long run and left us without sidewalks we know are a priority for the community. The patience will be rewarded with vastly improved infrastructure in this area.”
One-lane alternating traffic flow can be expected throughout the project – lasting approximately 1-year, with periodic full closures in effect at various times during construction.
An extended closure is expected for the culvert placement and associated preparatory works. Best efforts will be made to have this begin after Church/Throup Roundabout has reached substantial completion.
Crews will begin mobilizing on the site in the coming days with works to commence early in the New Year.
