Sooke Legion to hold virtual Remembrance Day ceremony

Monday, November 9, 2020 – On November 11th, the Sooke Legion will hold a virtual service streamed through their Facebook page.

Remembrance Day is a time to honour and show our respect for those to sacrificed so much for our freedom. Mayor Tait shares, “I would like to acknowledge with utmost gratitude our veterans. To the families in Sooke who have served, who continue to serve – thank you. Thank you for honouring us each and every day in the work that you do.” Residents are encouraged to pause at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month for a moment of silence. “I hope that our veterans and their families feel the presence of this reflection and the respect that I know the entire community shares,” adds Tait.

The order of service for the virtual ceremony will include:

  • Salute for flag party
  • Opening remarks and O Canada
  • Remembering past members
  • 2-minute silence
  • Act of Remembrance

  • Laying of wreaths
