Road Repairs Underway On Charters This Week

Tuesday, January 18, 2022 – Temporary repairs are underway this week on Charters Road where weather events have caused significant damage to the road.

Victoria Contracting is on site today, excavating and replacing road base as an interim road repair while the district meets with Emergency Management BC (EMBC) on an application for emergency funding due to the weather-related damage.

Single-lane alternating traffic with signage directing northbound vehicles to yield to ongoing southbound traffic will remain in place until repairs can be completed in full. The specific timeline for these repairs will be determined as design and potential changes to the 2023 funding allocation are finalized.

The district is meeting with EMBC on its emergency funding application on January 31st and is working to progress design for Charters North from 60% to final design over the next eight weeks.

Major road upgrades for Charters Road are identified in 2023 of the five-year financial plan with design (and project costing) being completed this year. Funding for the project includes $500,000 from BC Housing, collected through Development Cost Charges.

The district will continue to monitor the road and keep the community informed should there be changes to the traffic plan.
