Mayor Tait receives first poppy to launch annual poppy fundraising campaign in Sooke

Friday, October 29, 2021 – Today, at the Sooke Legion Cenotaph, Mayor Tait was honoured to receive the pinning of the first poppy to symbolize the official start of the annual poppy fundraising campaign.

“The poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. I am grateful to be a part of recognizing our veterans through this ceremony. It is a true privilege to be receiving the first poppy as the Sooke Legion 54 begins this year’s campaign,” says Tait.

The poppy campaign makes a big difference in the lives of Veterans and their families. The Legion is sharing stories of how the funds benefit members through their website. Those wishing to make a contribution to this year’s poppy campaign can do so through The Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund.

Because of the continued uncertainty about the COVID-19 pandemic, Sooke’s Remembrance Day service will be held virtually again this year. Residents are encouraged to observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m.
