Tuesday, June 18, 2024 – The District of Sooke is proud to support for the Guns Vs. Hoses Inaugural Charity Slo-Pitch Classic, a fundraising event benefiting this year’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock. Organized by Sooke RCMP Const. Mary-Ellen Somerville, this event promises a day of spirited competition and family-friendly activities on Sunday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fred Milne Park.
The Guns Vs. Hoses Charity Slo-Pitch Classic brings together Sooke RCMP and local firefighters for a friendly game with a significant purpose. Const. Somerville, also participating in the Tour de Rock, emphasized the event’s broader appeal beyond the diamond: “It’s about creating lasting memories and supporting a great cause. We’re hosting a family carnival atmosphere with 20 inflatables, a licensed beer garden, and activities like a home run championship and tee-ball challenge.”
The event features entertainment by LoveCats band, a barbecue hosted by Sooke Lions, and carnival treats from Sooke Harbourside Lions. Attendees can also participate in silent auctions, raffles, and 50-50 draws throughout the day, with all proceeds benefiting childhood cancer research and support services through the Tour de Rock.
“We are grateful for the overwhelming support from our community partners and sponsors,” Const. Somerville expressed. “Their generosity has made this event possible, and we look forward to a day of camaraderie and community spirit.”
Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Greg Willcocks added, “This won’t be your average softball game. It’s about coming together, having fun, and making a difference. We invite everyone to join us for a memorable day of fun-filled activities, all in support of a cause that touches us all.”
