Sooke library grand opening celebration right around the corner

This district is sharing the following from the Vancouver Island Regional Library:

Friday, June 3, 2022 – The entertainment’s booked, the speeches are written, and the stage is set to officially celebrate Sooke’s newest community amenity.  

Starting at 2pm on Saturday, June 11, the Sooke branch of Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) will host raptor demonstrations, author readings, face painting, music, technology demos, Indigenous drum donations, and so much more during the official Grand Opening celebration.  

The day promises to offer something for everyone with the following schedule of events:

  • 1:30 – 2pm: Music and guests arrive
  • 2 – 2:15pm: Blessing from T’Sou-ke Elder, Shirley Alphonse, speeches, drum donation from T’Sou-ke Drum Maker, Jeff Welch, and ribbon cutting
  • 2:15 – 2:45pm: Live raptor show with North West Raptors
  • 2:45-3:15 – Children’s author, Teoni Spathelfer, from the Heiltsuk Nation
  • 2:45 – 4pm: Makerspace demos in the makerspace room with Librarian, April Ripley
  • 3:30-4:00 – Storytime with Mayor, Maja Tait and Librarian, Nathalie Jones

In addition to the scheduled events, there will also be face painting available all day, snacks and refreshments, library tours, and special guests.

The branch has been open to the public since February 25, 2022.
