Public Notification: Emergency Training Event at Ayre Manor Assisted Living on June 15th

Wednesday, June 12, 2024 – The District is notifying the public of an upcoming emergency training exercises taking place at Ayre Manor Assisted Living:

Date: Saturday, June 15th, 2024

When: The training event will run from approximately 9:45 AM to 1:30 PM

Who: Firefighters from Sooke, Metchosin, East Sooke, and Otter Point, along with BC Ambulance Service, Sooke Emergency Program, and Sooke Emergency Support Services (ESS)

What: Emergency Response Training Event

Where: Ayre Manor Assisted Living, 6754 Ayre Road

Why: The Sooke Fire Department, in collaboration with Ayre Manor Seniors’ Housing, will be simulating a fire event at the multi-story assisted living apartment building. This training exercise aims to challenge firefighters, residents, and staff of Ayre Manor, and to provide an opportunity for practice and review of emergency response and planning. Additionally, Sooke ESS members will be using this exercise to set up a Reception Centre at Sooke Legion Branch 54. This Reception Centre would be utilized in the event of a major emergency, such as a significant wildfire in or approaching the District of Sooke.

Special Notes:

  • Traffic along Ayre Road may be temporarily disrupted as emergency vehicles arrive and position their apparatus.
  • Multiple fire trucks will be transiting through Sooke to the training site.
  • At its peak, it is anticipated that there will be 70 people from various agencies participating in the event.
