Participation in Communities in Bloom

NEWS RELEASE February 28, 2018
[Sooke, BC]

The District is turning a new leaf after a one-year hiatus from participating in the Communities in Bloom Award Program. With a variety of beautification projects already in place and more planned for our community, this is an opportunity to promote our horticultural enhancements alongside our small-town community spirit.

Communities in Bloom strives to improve the tidiness, appearance and appeal of Canada’s neighborhoods, parks and urban environments through the imaginative use of flowers and plantings. Environmental awareness, preservation of heritage, culture and community involvement are also important. In 2014, Sooke was only one of three BC communities to receive the highest rating of ‘5 blooms. The District hopes to achieve this standard again when the judges evaluate the 2018 event. Mayor Tait believes that “this is a great opportunity to showcase our town and promote our local businesses and organizations, through community pride”.
