Fire Incident at 17 Mile Restaurant in Sooke

Wednesday, March 6, 2024 – Sooke Fire Rescue responded to an incident at the 17 Mile Restaurant in Sooke on the evening of March 5, 2024 at approximately 6:16 p.m. The call reported a kitchen fire on the second floor of the establishment. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the fire had been extinguished by the quick actions of the restaurant staff.

The first truck arrived on the scene within approximately 10 minutes of the call, encountering light smoke but no visible flames. Careful investigation of hot spots revealed no further fire activity was detected. Crews proceeded to clear smoke from the building to ensure the safety of patrons and staff before allowing the restaurant to reopen.

The extent of the damage appears limited with minor damage to the deck and a meat smoker, thanks to the prompt response and collaborative efforts of restaurant staff and firefighters. Sooke Fire Rescue extends gratitude to its mutual aid partners from Metchosin, Otter Point, and East Sooke Fire for their support during the incident.

No injuries have been reported from the incident.
