District of Sooke Launches Let’s Talk Sooke

Wednesday, April 21, 2021 – Today, the District of Sooke launched a new online community engagement platform: Let’s Talk Sooke.  Residents can ask questions, stay up to date on community projects and initiatives, and join conversations with neighbours.

This platform offers the opportunity to participate in facilitated online forums where people can provide opinions, ask questions, and share concerns on a variety of projects, from budget consultation to implementation of master plans, to fenced dog parks, to the review of the Official Community Plan and more. Community feedback gathered through Let’s Talk Sooke will be used to inform Council decisions.

Let’s Talk Sooke offers a variety of feedback methods, including:

  • surveys;
  • polls;
  • discussion forums and;
  • question and answer boards.

The platform will be used along with in-person community engagement (once safe to do so), to help all citizens have access and flexibility when participating in important community conversations.

“The COVID-19 pandemic limited our ability to conduct consultation in person. We found new ways to connect and we want to build on that,” shares Mayor Maja Tait. “Through our strategic planning Council identified effective and consistent communication as a guiding principle. We are continually working to improve this area to ensure citizens have access to the information they need and can easily participate in important community conversations.”

The District has launched Let’s Talk Sooke with updates on the Parks and Trails Master Plan Implementation, and Transportation Master Plan Implementation. Next:

  • A community conversation on low carbon resilience will begin on Earth Day, April 22;
  • Starting May 4th, the community can join a conversation on the fenced dog park at Ponds Corridor and;
  • This summer – the platform will host a conversation on the draft Official Community Plan.
