A Variety of Ways Available to Pay Property Taxes

May 31, 2021 – Property tax notices are in the mail and the District of Sooke encourages residents to use one of the online, mail or drop off options for payment by the July 2 due date.

Ways to Pay

ONLINE BANKING:

Online payment can be made through your financial institution and is strongly encouraged as we work together to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Your account number is your tax notice folio number, entered without the decimal (e.g. enter 010351.500 as 010351500).

IN-PERSON AT THE MUNICIPAL HALL:

The Municipal Hall is open Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with social distancing and COVID safety measures in place to protect both residents and staff. Cash, cheque and Interac payments are accepted. Note: the Municipal Hall will be closed on Thursday, July 1st for Canada Day.

Extended Hours

Municipal Hall will be open until 8:00 p.m. on Tues, June 22, Thurs, June 24, and Frid, July 2, 2021.

What to expect if paying in person

  • For the safety of residents and staff, the following safety protocols are in place:
  • Masks are required indoors and while waiting in line for entry
  • Only two persons are permitted in the foyer of the municipal hall at a time
  • Upon entry, please sanitize your hands
  • Counters and payment terminals will be sanitized after each use
  • Maintain your distance from others while waiting

Our team will assist you as quickly as possible. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

AFTER-HOURS AT THE MUNICIPAL HALL:

A drop box is available at the Municipal Hall, conveniently located at the front door entrance, for non-cash payments being made after hours.

PAYMENT BY CHEQUE:

Please make your cheque payable to the District of Sooke. Cheques may be post-dated to July 2, 2021. Dishonoured cheques constitute non-payment of taxes and will be subject to penalty, interest and a $35.00 service charge. Mail your cheque to:

District of Sooke

2205 Otter Point Road

Sooke, BC V9Z 1J2.

Payments by mail must be received by 4:30 pm on July 2, 2021.

Home owner grant changes

The province requires property owners to apply for their home owner grant online or by phone with the province at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or 1-888-355-2700. The District can no longer accept applications or process home owner grants. Program eligibility is unchanged.

Plan ahead for 2022

PRE-AUTHORIZED PAYMENT PLAN

You can pre-pay your 2022 property taxes on a monthly pre-authorized basis starting August 3, 2021. The Property Tax Pre-Authorized Payment Plan is an optional payment plan that provides an opportunity for taxpayers to make equal monthly payments. Payments will be processed as 10 equal payments and collected on the first business day of each month, commencing in August of the year preceding the tax due date, and ending in May of the year in which the taxes become due. An 11th payment will be withdrawn for any property taxes still owing on the due date in July.
