Friday, August 16, 2024 – We are writing to inform you that the District of Sooke Council will be considering final adoption of the proposed amendments to the Development Cost Charges (DCC) Bylaw 909 at the Regular Council meeting scheduled for September 23, 2024.
The amendments, which have received third reading from District of Sooke Council and approval from the Provincial Government, will result in changes to the DCC rates applicable to new development projects within the District. Please note the following key points:
Effective Date: Should the bylaw amendments be approved by Council on September 23, 2024, the new DCC rates will come into effect immediately.
Grace Period: Any Building Permit or Subdivision Preliminary Layout Assessment (PLA) applications subject to DCC charges submitted before September 23, 2024, must be complete and generally approvable to qualify for the one-year grace period under the current DCC rates, in accordance with provincial legislation. Incomplete or insufficient applications may not qualify for this grace period and could be subject to the new DCC rates upon resubmission.
Applications Submitted After September 23, 2024: Any Building Permit or Subdivision PLA applications submitted on or after September 23, 2024, if applicable will be subject to the new DCC rates.
We encourage you to submit any pending Building Permit or Subdivision PLA applications prior to the effective date to ensure they are subject to the existing DCC rates during the one-year grace period.
