Emergency Operations Centre Closing for the Evening

Please be advised that the Emergency Operations Centre will be closing for the evening. It will reopen at 8:00am, tomorrow, Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

BC Wildfire crews will remain onsite overnight. The Sooke Potholes Gateway, Galloping Goose Trail entering the Sooke Potholes, and the Sooke Potholes Regional Park, including Spring Salmon Campground, will remain closed until further notice.

Update for persons impacted by the tactical evacuation of the Spring Salmon Campground

Persons within the tactical evacuation area of the Spring Salmon Campground will not be permitted to return this evening. The opportunity to retrieve belongings will be addressed tomorrow.

Those impacted are asked to find alternative accommodation. Anyone in the tactical evacuation area needing assistance is asked to go to the Sooke Fire Hall at 2225 Otter Point Road.

Parking is available at Sooke Municipal Hall, located at 2205 Otter Point Road.

An Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has been activities to support communication and coordination among all response teams and stakeholders involved in teh Sooke Potholes Area wildfire.

Council Meeting Cancelled

Due to ongoing efforts and priorities related to the Sooke Potholes Area wildfire, tonight’s scheduled Council meeting has been cancelled. This decision has been made out of an abundance of caution, as our staff resources are currently focused on supporting the wildfire response efforts. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our community members remain our top priority.

Closure of Sooke Potholes Park Due to Wildfire Activity North of Park

Due to a wildfire located north of Sooke Potholes Park, the park is closed until further notice. Emergency crews, including mutual aid partners and BC Wildfire Service, are actively responding to the incident.

As a precaution, the Spring Salmon Place (KWL-UCHUN) Campground is being evacuated and all persons are asked to avoid the area.

This is an evolving situation, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
