Survey Now Open: Sooke Residents Encouraged to Shape Future Community Gardens

Monday, June 24, 2024 – The Sooke Community Garden project, in collaboration with the District of Sooke, is excited to announce the launch of a survey aimed at gathering community input on potential locations for new community gardens. This initiative seeks to empower residents to participate in local food production and community building amidst ongoing urban development in the Sooke core.

Following a comprehensive review of various park locations, the project has identified Woodland Creek Park and Ponds Park Corridor (adjacent to Carter Navarrete Dog Park) as potential sites. To facilitate direct community engagement, two “open houses” are scheduled this week:

  • Ponds Park Corridor: Tuesday, June 25, from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm
  • Woodland Creek Park: Thursday, June 27, from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm

The project’s development is made possible through the District of Sooke Community Climate Action Seed Funding grant, totaling $7,000 over two years (2023 – 24), which provides essential start-up support.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with the District of Sooke and appreciate their generous funding to bring these community projects to life,” said Levi Megenbir, spokesperson for Transition Sooke.
