District of Sooke Supports Local Non-Profit Organizations with $100,000 in Community Grants

Wednesday, April 24, 2024 – The District of Sooke is proud to acknowledge the remarkable contributions made by numerous not-for-profit organizations to our community. This year, twenty-four (24) deserving organizations have been selected to receive a total of $100,810 through the annual Community Grant Program.

The funding for these grants is allocated from a combination of sources, including the District’s Community Grant Funding, capped at $65,000, the COVID Safe Restart Reserve Fund, and Council Contingency — reflecting our commitment to supporting community resilience and recovery.

Grants of up to $7,000 are made available annually to organizations dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Sooke residents across various domains, including:

  • Arts and Culture
  • Community Development, encompassing promotion, economic vitality, and beautification efforts
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Heritage Preservation
  • Public Safety
  • Sports and Recreation

  • Scouts Canada 37th Milnes Landing: $5,000
  • Sooke Community Jazz Band: $2,695
  • Sooke Community Choir: $2,500
  • South Island Performing Arts Society: $7,000
  • 606 Water Group: $2,390
  • Sooke Community Radio: $5,000
  • Friends of Sooke Parks Society: $3,500
  • Sooke Harbour Players: $4,000
  • Sooke Classical Boating Society: $5,500
  • Choral Evolution Society: $5,000

Funded from COVID-19 Safe Restart Reserve Fund:

  • Victoria Brain Injury Society: $5,000
  • Take a Hike Youth Mental Health Foundation: $3,500
  • KidSport Greater Victoria: $7,000
  • Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR): $4,700
  • Sooke Meals on Wheels: $7,000
  • Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria: $1,000
  • Urban Food Resilience Initiatives Society: $2,000

Funded from Council Contingency:

  • Sooke Region Tourism Association: $7,000
