Update: Church and Otter Point Road Construction Projects

Friday, November 5, 2021 – Two major construction projects in Sooke’s town core remain on schedule for year-end completion.  The District is working with contractors to provide residents with regular updates. Please continue to visit sooke.ca/news for the latest district information.

Otter Point Road:

Major milestones for the Otter Point Road Active Transportation Corridor Project include the completion of drainage, underground electrical, and curb preparation and road grading between Wadams Way and Eustace Rd. Work is now progressing South towards the highway. Street light bases have also started to be installed.

The Contractor is continually working to eliminate any potholes that arise, however, with the current rain this is challenging.

Public is advised that signal timing will be altered in the coming weeks as well as lane layout changes for completion of the works at the intersection of Highway 14 and Otter Point Road.

Church Road:

Deep utility work has been completed on Church Road.

On Monday and Tuesday next week, crews will be trenching across the road which will result in some traffic disruption. The Project Manager shares, “We will do half road width at a time to limit traffic delays.”

Work on the curb and sidewalk on the west side of Church Rd (Northbound only Highway 14 to Country Road) will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., catch basin installation on Highway 14 will take place.

On Thursday and Friday, it is not anticipated that there will be further work impeding traffic beyond the current construction environment.

Thank you for your continued patience as this critical work is completed. We know traffic delays can be frustrating. Please allow additional time for your commute and be assured, that in the coming weeks, the result will be favourable with these infrastructure improvements yielding an enhanced commute for vehicle and pedestrian traffic alike.
