JOINT STATEMENT: T’SOU-KE NATION & DISTRICT OF SOOKE

Monday, June 28, 2021 – The T’Sou-ke Nation and the District of Sooke have issued the following joint statement regarding our relationship:

The T’Sou-ke Nation and the District of Sooke are proud to face the future together.

Through listening, learning, and our joint efforts, we are continuing this journey in collaboration, and with compassion.

There is much work to do and much work that has been underway throughout our longstanding relationship.

While some of the work taking place between the T’Sou-ke Nation and the District of Sooke is not yet ready to be shared with our communities, please know it is taking place – and that it is an honour to be doing this work together.

The work underway is not limited to our government organizations. The work requires all members of our communities to be active participants.

We have a shared responsibility to be stewards of the land within our communities and on the territory that connects us.

Each and every day we have the opportunity to show we care for each other and our physical environment. Care that supports a common desire: a good life for all of our children – for generations to come.

It is the actions that we take now and will take tomorrow that will allow this desire to become our reality.

In recognizing the past and in our commitment to our future, we gratefully acknowledge that we are standing in the present – together.

Chief Gordon Planes and Mayor Maja Tait proudly stand and work together on the lands of the T’Sou-ke Nation
