District of Sooke Council Strategic Plan Approved

NEWS RELEASE
October 1, 2019

[Sooke, BC] – The District of Sooke is pleased to announce that the 2019-2022 Council Strategic Plan has been adopted at last night’s Regular meeting of Council. Council established goals and objectives to achieve during their term of office with facilitation provided by two consultants, who presented the final plan at the Committee of the Whole meeting on September 17, 2019. The final 2019-2022 Council Strategic Plan for the District includes a detailed Action Plan which is included as Appendix A to the plan.

Evan Peterson, Principal of Barefoot Planning, along with James Pratt of Pratt Consulting, facilitated four (4) core workshops to obtain feedback for consideration in the development for the Plan, following a preliminary Council survey. The workshops were conducted throughout the month of April and included feedback from staff, management staff, community stakeholders, and a visual scribe, the latter three in collaboration with Council.

“Council is proud of this document, especially the fact that it has been derived from consultation with management and all staff, in addition to Sooke’s community partners,” says Mayor Tait. “It is a unique practice to involve individuals external to an organization in creating a strategic plan” continues Mayor Tait. “This is a plan that the whole community can be excited about due to the creative, innovative, and intuitive process it underwent.”

The District of Sooke Council and new CAO, Norm McInnis developed a framework where the Objectives in the Action Plan are prioritized into ‘Now’, ‘Next’ and ‘Later’ categories. ‘Now’ are the objectives that are currently being focused on and as time and projects complete, the document will continually be updated, creating a ‘living document’. District of Sooke administration’s goal is to provide these updates to Council and the public, quarterly.
