early arrival.

As of late February, Sooke is already in bloom. At Municipal Hall, Ed MacGregor Park, and throughout the community, crocuses, snowdrops, heather, primulas, and the soft pink blossoms of cherry and plum trees are emerging. Along local streets and in private gardens, early spring colours are blooming as the season takes hold.

Beyond cultivated spaces, Sooke’s forests and meadows are also awakening. Among the trees and trails, salmonberry and June plum are showing their first bright blooms, while manzanita and spring gold add warm golden hues to the landscape. Satinflowers, one of the season’s early wildflowers, are just beginning to pop, marking the transition into spring.

Residents are encouraged to celebrate the season by submitting their flower counts to help Sooke compete for the title of “Bloomingest Community” in Greater Victoria. Flower counts can be submitted through the official Flower Count website between 7 a.m. on March 5 and 4 p.m. on March 12.

Let’s count our blossoms and share the beauty of Sooke this spring!
