Tuesday, March 8, 2022 – The DIstrict of Sooke is sharing this public service announcement from the Department of National Defense:
The Department of National Defence is planning to burn debris piles at the Rocky Point property in Metchosin. Management of vegetation has resulted in debris piles consisting of scotch broom, gorse and small conifer trees. Vegetation management is necessary to prevent wildfires, maintain military training areas and protect species at risk.
Up to 50 debris piles will be burned over approximately 16 days between 10 March and 26 March 2022. Burning will be conducted on days when weather and ventilation conditions are favourable and when permitted by the BC Ministry of Environment. Some smoke will be generated during burning.
