Parks update: Staff tend to Whiffen Spit after king tide brings remarkable debris ashore

Tuesday, November 17, 2020 – A king tide caused considerable debris to land on Whiffen Spit on Monday and Tuesday this week.

Parks staff will be working with equipment on Wednesday (November 18th) to manage the cleanup. The public can expect to see a bobcat on-site and staff working to clear debris throughout the day. Parks and Environmental Services Coordinator Jessica Boquist shares, “Our team is working hard to manage the considerable debris at Whiffen Spit as best as we are able.” The public visiting the popular park are advised of an uneven trail surface due to the influence of mother nature. “Generally, the public should expect the trail to function as a nature trail until enhanced maintenance can be completed in full at the end of winter,” adds Boquist.
