Fire Station Renovation To Begin Shortly

Renovation will enhance emergency planning and service to the community

Friday, January 28, 2022 – A fire station renovation supporting emergency services planning along with enhancements for facility reopening after the pandemic will begin next month. There will be no service disruption to the public during construction.

A trailer will be arriving on site at Fire Station One, 2225 Otter Point Road, on February 1st and our fire service administrative operations will transition to this temporary space, effective February 25th.

The renovation will rectify deficiencies identified in a Baseline Property Condition Assessment (BPCA) conducted in 2020, including occupational health and safety requirements, and upgrades required to the sprinkler system, plumbing and the heating and ventilation system.

The renovation also includes a universally accessible washroom in the Council Chamber and upgrades to the Emergency Operations Centre and its technology, along with first responder training facilities. Such facilities will also allow (post-pandemic) space to provide emergency service public education sessions.

The project is being funded through the COVID-19 Safe Restart Reserve Fund, which describes how the funds can be used.

It is estimated that the project will take appropriately 6-months to complete; however, given the pandemic, there is a possibility that supply chains may impact this timeline.
