Fire Danger Rating now EXTREME – campfires prohibited

UPDATE: the fire ban was rescinded on July 30, 2020

NEWS RELEASE
July 28, 2020

According to the July 28, 2020 Wildfire Situation Report, the Fire Danger Rating for the Sooke Catchment area has been raised to ‘Extreme’.

“Extreme Fire Danger” is defined as extremely dry forest fuels and the fire risk is very serious. New fires will start easily, spread rapidly, and challenge fire suppression efforts.

All open air burning including campfires, backyard burning and beach fires are prohibited within the District of Sooke until further notice. Propane fire rings are still permitted and are a great alternative to campfires. Please recreate safely and responsibly!
