Annual Santa Parade Announcement

ORIGINAL RELEASE – November 2, 2016

[Sooke, BC] – The Mayor and Council for the District of Sooke are pleased to announce the Sooke Lion’s Club has agreed to organize this year’s Santa Parade. “This is an important event in our community and we are grateful the Lion’s have agreed to take this on”, said Mayor Tait.

CAO Teresa Sullivan was asked by Lorne Christenson to attend their meeting on October 27, 2016, to make a presentation to members after the District received notice from the Chamber of Commerce they were focusing their efforts on supporting local businesses rather than organizing community events.

“I would like to thank the Chamber for organizing the Santa Parade in previous years and look forward to a smooth transition with the Lions this year”, Sullivan said. The parade will take place on December 4th and will begin at 5:00 PM. More information will be made available from the District and the Lions in the coming weeks.

Three leadership students from Edward Milne Community School – Alana Gibb, Karyl Muselt-Trevino and Emmie Nicks – are also helping with the Santa Parade. They are eager to host some after parade activities and will encourage other students to participate.

“The Lions are looking forward to working with local students to make this parade a success”, said Lorne Christenson.

Of particular note is Councillor Kevin Pearson who approached the Lions after Council was informed the Chamber was not going to organize the parade this year. His dogged determination in getting a meeting between the Lions and the CAO pushed this issue to the top of the priority list for the District.
