District of Sooke and Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce Launch “Shop Sooke First” Campaign

Spread the love this Valentine’s Day—and every day—by supporting our local businesses!

Friday, February 14, 2025 – The District of Sooke and the Sooke Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to launch Shop Sooke First, a community-driven campaign encouraging residents to choose local. Every dollar spent at a Sooke business supports jobs, strengthens the economy, and fosters a thriving, connected community.

“When we shop local, we’re not just making a purchase—we’re making an impact,” says Deb Schenk, Executive Director of the Sooke Chamber of Commerce. “Every sale keeps money in Sooke, helps create jobs, and supports the businesses that give back to our community. This campaign is about celebrating the businesses that make Sooke special and ensuring they continue to grow.”

Why Shop Sooke First? The Local Impact:

  • Keeps Money in Sooke – Local spending circulates within the community, benefiting jobs, programs, and services.
  • Creates Local Jobs – Thriving businesses provide employment for residents and future generations.
  • Builds a Stronger Community – Local businesses sponsor sports teams, events, and charities that make Sooke a great place to live.
  • Fosters Connection & Service – Shopping local means personalized service from business owners who know and care about their customers.
  • Encourages Sustainability – Supporting nearby businesses reduces environmental impact and preserves Sooke’s natural beauty.
  • Celebrates Local Talent – Local makers, creators, and entrepreneurs bring unique products and services to town.

“This campaign is about more than just shopping—it’s about community,” says Mayor Maja Tait. “When we choose Sooke businesses first, we’re investing in our neighbours, our families, and our local economy. Whether it’s a coffee from your favourite café, a gift from a local artisan, or a service from a trusted professional, every choice to shop local helps keep Sooke strong.”

Business Toolkit: Get Involved (At No Cost!)

Sooke businesses are invited to participate in Shop Sooke First with simple, no-cost strategies:

  • Showcase Local Pride: Display Shop Sooke First posters – limited print copies are available from the District of Sooke Municipal Hall or pick up a digital copy on the District of Sooke and Sooke Region Chamber websites.
  • Engage Customers: Start conversations about the impact of shopping local. A simple “thank you for supporting local” at checkout can make a difference.
  • Share Your Story: Let customers know what makes your business unique and how their support helps. Share testimonials, behind-the-scenes content, or community connections. If you’d like the District and Sooke Chamber to amplify your story, complete this questionnaire.
  • Collaborate with Other Businesses: Partner for promotions, bundle deals, or cross-referrals to expand your reach.
  • Encourage Word-of-Mouth & Loyalty: Offer a Shop Sooke First promotion or customer perk. Encourage shoppers to tag and celebrate your business online.
  • Tap into Free Promotion: Have a Shop Sooke First event or deal? Let the Sooke Chamber of Commerce know—they may help promote it!

Residents and businesses alike are encouraged to embrace the Shop Sooke First mindset. By supporting local, we create a town where businesses flourish, families thrive, and community spirit grows.
