Friday, September 20, 2024 – The District of Sooke is proud to announce the appointment of Captain Chris McCrea as the new Deputy Fire Chief for Sooke Fire Rescue Services (SFRS), effective September 16, 2024.
Deputy Chief Chris McCrea brings with him a remarkable 25-year history with the Sooke Fire Rescue Services. Starting as a volunteer firefighter, Chris has steadily advanced through the ranks, transitioning to a paid-on-call firefighter and then becoming a full-time career firefighter. His exceptional leadership was further recognized when he was promoted to Captain, a role in which he excelled, mentoring his peers and playing an integral part in the department’s success.
The role of Deputy Fire Chief is a key leadership position within Sooke Fire Rescue Services. Responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, emergency response coordination, and supporting long-term strategic planning, the Deputy Chief plays an integral role in ensuring the effectiveness and readiness of Sooke’s Fire Rescue and Emergency Management Services.
“Chris has a long history here with our fire department and brings extensive experience and knowledge with him as he transitions into this role within the fire leadership team,” said Fire Chief Kennedy. “His insight, skillset, and connection to the community make him an exceptional addition to the senior leadership team.”
As Deputy Chief, McCrea will be responsible for not only supporting the Fire Chief but also working closely with municipal leaders, emergency services, and the community to uphold Sooke’s commitment to safety and emergency response. His extensive experience and dedication will support the service area as it continues to grow and respond to the evolving needs of the community.
