Call to Artists – Directional Signage for Urban Trails

The District of Sooke is developing directional signage on its urban trail systems connecting residential, recreational and commercial areas of the community.

There will be three primary trails:
1. The Stickleback Trail running from the Galloping Goose regional trail through to Broom Hill.
2. The Sun Run Trail that will connect Sunriver to Sooke.
3. The Sea Walk Trail connecting the Stickleback to the commercial core and coastal boardwalk.

The Sooke Program for the Arts Committee is seeking the input of an artist to design three (3) iconic images to be used on trail posts and maps that will identify each of the trails.

The Committee is interested in obtaining three (3) images that can be incorporated into the trail posts (6×6).

The art should be consistent with the name of the trail, Sooke’s natural heritage and capable of being easily reproduced on a variety of mediums. Note that the trail posts will be colour coordinated for each trail.

An honorarium of $500 will be awarded for each image as outlined above. The selected images will become the property of the District of Sooke.

The District of Sooke reserves the right to select only the artwork it deems appropriate and maintains the option of selecting a part or none of the art submitted.

Artist’s concepts of the trail icon images are to be submitted to the District of Sooke no later than February 28th, 2019 addressed as follows:
