News Release: Brooks Park Playground is Open for Play

The District of Sooke Mayor and Council are proud to announce that the Brooks Park Playground is officially open and ready for exploration.

After the removal of the beloved “Pirate Ship” many young residents were familiar with, a new structure has been added to the playground. In addition to providing new play opportunities, the equipment has also been located to the front of the park, eliminating the need for young adventurers to splash through seasonal waterways to reach the playground.

The previous aging structure has been replaced with a “Smart Play Cube” designed specifically for children aged 2-5. It includes 14 activities addressing developmentally-appropriate skills; a steel drum, various puzzles and interactive panels, an activity table and bench, a steering wheel, climber and a slide.

“Increasing opportunities for play creates a brighter future for everyone, regardless of age,” says Mayor Maja Tait. “Playgrounds are a place for families and neighbours to connect, to build relationships with one another and with the community as a whole”.

Mayor Tait welcomes the public to join her at Brooks Parks Playground for an official opening ceremony on November 28, 2018 at 10 am.
