2022 General Local and School Board Elections

Tuesday, August 2, 2022 – On Saturday, October 15, 2022, eligible voters will cast their ballot to elect:

  • One (1) Mayor
  • Six (6) Councillors
  • Three (3) School District 62 Trustees

Candidate nomination packages are available for pick up at the municipal hall – located at 2205 Otter Point Road. Packages will also be available at the Candidate Information Session on August 11, 2022.

Candidate Nomination Period

The nomination period for candidates is Wednesday, August 30 at 9:00 a.m. to Friday, September 9 at 4:00 p.m.

Local Government (Mayor and Council) Candidate Information Session

Join us for a candidate information session on Thursday, August 11th, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the District of Sooke Municipal Hall, Council Chamber – located at 2205 Otter Point Road.

The information session will provide general information about what to expect before, during and after the election – including an overview of general local elections, election legislation and regulations, key dates, the local government candidate nomination process and requirements, voting and taking office, and responsibilities of elected officials. Staff will be available to answer questions. Registration is not required to attend.

This session is recommended for potential candidates and key campaign staff.

Register to Vote

The District uses Election BC’s provincial voter list as the official list of registered electors for its local government election. Voters not already registered may do so in person at the District of Sooke Municipal Hall until August 23, 2022.

Non-resident electors may register to vote by contacting the Chief Election Officer. Registration for non-resident voters is possible at the voting station, however, if there are multiple property owners, additional paperwork is required to be signed by all owners.

If you are 16 or 17 years old, you can register now to be automatically added to the voter list when you turn 18.
