Protective Services

The District of Sooke provides protective services through several different service structures. On a periodic basis, the District of Sooke holds a Protective Services Open Meeting. The first meeting was held on March 7, 2012

Bylaw Enforcement

The District of Sooke provides routine bylaw enforcement services for the matters listed below. Bylaw Officers have authority under the Local Government Act to enter private property at reasonable times to ascertain whether municipal bylaws are being complied with. They have authority to write municipal tickets.

The District of Sooke contracts to the Capital Regional District for animal control. Please direct all animal control related questions to the CRD Animal Control at 250-478-0624.

Bylaw concerns may be forwarded to the municipal office during regular office hours. We encourage residents to attend the municipal office in person to fill out our service request form.

Policing

The District of Sooke contracts with the RCMP for policing services and to enforce municipal bylaws. The District also provides funding for several organizations such as:

  • Mobile Youth Services Team
  • Community Liaison Officer
  • Integrated Domestic Violence Unit
  • RCMP Victim Services
  • Park Watch

Sooke Emergency Program

The District of Sooke has an Emergency Planning Bylaw and accompanying emergency plan, which provides for the establishment, administration and operation of an Emergency Program. Both municipal staff and Sooke area volunteers are trained to provide emergency management in the event of an emergency or natural disaster.

Sooke Fire Rescue

The Sooke Fire Rescue provides a wide array of fire protection, including fire fighting and suppression, rescue, pre-fire planning, response to hazardous materials spills, fire investigation, public information and training, all through a combination of career and volunteer on call fire department, administered by the Fire Chief.
